Ray G.G.Grand Dad's Story

Please don't take my relating events in my LIFE as bragging, but to share how fortunate and a wonderful and full LIFE that I have had, and that I love to share details on any part. I was born on June 18th, 1922 in a cook shack! My father and I were very close and he took me with him all during my early days every where that he went. He had bleeding ulcers and felt he possible would not LIVE very long and I might be the MAN of the family at an early age. He and my mother lived in a cook shack early in there marriage until there home would be completed. This was used to feed the thrashing crews of grain while their first first home was built North of Muenster. Because of his health problem, he had to discontinue farming and move to town. He started a used car repair shop after attending Ray's auto Training school in Kansas. Later he started a gasoline distributor shipment for Magnolia. I became a very limited involvement in the start of the family business, Chevrolet dealership in 1925. Dad started with his brother Hubert, but after a short time bought him out. I went off to college in 1940 to St. Mary's University in San Antonio,Tx and completed all but one subject before being called to active service WWII as volunteer in the US Army. While in college I was in the US Air force for one year earning my wings and private pilot license by instructor Gene Dubolai at Gainesville Air po...Expand for more
rt and ground studies at Cooke County College, Gainesville Tx. I requested and received permission to transfer to the regular army because they wanted me to fly gliders. I took my basic army training at El Paso Tx. Next they transferred me to Indiana U for training in G-2, counter Intelligence service. My major was psychology, and German and French languages. Because of the ¿TEXAS TWANG¿ in my German, they decided I would not do uncover work, so I was sent to Rutgers University for Engineering study. I was next assigned to the 104th Infantry div. as a rifle man. A G-2 person does this work unknown to any one while doing a separate cover job. I was later assigned to the 115th Evacuation Hospital in Wales, France, Belgium and Germany. After the war was over I stayed over seas as long as I could doing much traveling. I was selected to go to Shrivenham University in Shrivenham,England a American University overseas as a test to see how combat troops could revert back going to college. I returned home and married my sweetheart Marcy Schmitz on July 23rd 1946.who had waited all during my service time. We had our first child Danny Ray on October 1st, 1947. This followed with two more, Janice Kay (now Cain). And Joan Francis (no Sturm). They all were in school when the next three came along, Tina Marie (now Womack), Gregory Allen Wilde, and Rene (now Martin). more to follow>>>>
